Governor Profiles

Mr. Erdal Niyazoglu (Chair, Co-opted Governor)

My name is Erdal Niyazoglu and I am ending my second year as a parent governor.  I have recently been elected as Vice-Chairman and look forward to the challenge ahead with a more active roIe. I am delighted and privileged to have an opportunity to serve as a governor and to work with the staff and governing body to strive and ensure that the schools high standards and achievements are maintained.

I have a son who is now in Year 5.  He is thoroughly enjoying his time in school and we are very happy with his progress. I am looking forward to his younger brother, who is studying at the infants, to naturally progress to the juniors.

I have a background in Graphic Design and after leaving Art School, worked designing LP record sleeves.  I then moved into the catering business and opened a number of restaurants. During this time, I employed over 100 staff and managed Finance for the Group.  I have now sold all my restaurants and moved onto property management.

Mr. Andrew Kilgour (Headteacher, ex officio)

I am now in the twenty-second year of my teaching career, the last eight years of which have been spent at Darrick Wood Junior School.  I have also taught in the London Boroughs of Sutton and Croydon and, early in my career, spent two years teaching overseas in Eritrea.  I was appointed to DWJS in the role of Assistant Headteacher in 2007 and took on the role of Headteacher in September 2013.  As a member of the DWJS Governing Body I site on all of its committees and work closely with school governors, particularly the Chair of Governors, to improve outcomes for all children.  When not working, I enjoy running and cycling and I am a big fan of American sports, particularly the NFL.  I am also a keen, although not terribly good, guitarist.

Mr. Dave Hackin (Deputy Headteacher, Co-opted Governor)

Prior to joining Darrick Wood Junior School in April 2015, I spent the first eleven years of my teaching career working in Peckham, in the London Borough of Southwark.  From 2009 onwards, I have been employed as a Deputy Headteacher, leading on behaviour and inclusion in my previous position and on behaviour and assessment since joining DWJS.  My interests include futilely supporting Bolton Wanderers Football Club, reading modern history and watching live music.

Mr. Nigel Robinson (Chair of Finance & Resources Committee, Parent Governor)

I'm Nigel Robinson and have been a Parent Governor since 2011.  I have four children, one which has passed through the school and is now at the senior school.  Two are currently attending, with one still to come.  Feeling I had a vested interest in the school I decided to join the governing body and enjoyed my time thus far.

I am Managing Director of a Picture Framing Company in East London and my everyday work life brings many skills which help me fulfil my role as a governor.  I always hope that I have the school's best interest at heart and with my fellow Governors, strive to make our school the very best it can be for the good of all the children, staff and parents.

Mrs. Clair Waite (Chair of Standards & Curriculum/Pupils & Community Committes, Parent Governor)

My name is Clair Waite and I was elected as a Parent Governor at Darrick Wood Junior School in November 2013. I have 4 children, 2 currently in the Junior School. I am a member of the Pupils and Community and Standards and Curriculum committees. I am also the SEN Governor.
I am eager to have the opportunity to contribute to the Governing Body and support the school to help each child develop and reach their full potential.

Mrs. Shelagh Harrison (Co-opted Governor)

My name is Claire Pester and I was elected as a Parent Governor at Darrick Wood Junior School in September 2016.  I have two children currently in the school.   I am a member of the Pupils and Community and Standards and Curriculum committees.

Having worked in education for the last 15 years (currently at Edgebury Primary as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, leading on inclusion and behaviour and previously at Pratts Bottom Primary as a class teacher) I am passionate about Education and I am eager to have the opportunity to contribute to the Governing Body to help build on the positive success’ of the school by being supportive with an open mind, combining my experience in schools with the understanding of a parent.
