The sun is shining but that didn't stop us having a snowball fight today in Maths! Ask us about it. :)
Are both our feet the same size?
This is the question central to our Maths investigation today!
The children worked in pairs and measured each other’s feet, ensuring that their measurements were accurate to the nearest mm. They then converted the mm measurement into cm – phew!
Are both our feet the same size? Well, so far for our Maths sets, it seems usually not! But why is this? The investigation continues .........
Primary Writing Project
The school has just begun work on the Primary Writing Project, an exciting project led by Pie Corbett which is aimed at raising standards in English across the school. Following the first staff training day in early November, the Year 3 teachers introduced the pupils to some of the techniques they had learned. As part of the project, learning around writing is broken down into three clear stages: imitation, innovation and invention. At the imitation stage, the children learn the focus text off by heart, along with accompanying actions. This is to help embed the rich story-telling vocabulary and language structures which the pupils can use during the later stages in the their own writing.
In the video clip above, you can see a small group of Year 3 pupils telling the opening of Little Red Riding Hood. They are supporting their story-telling with BSL signs which they also learned. Watch out for more clips as we embed the Primary Writing Project approach in our teaching and learning.
Year 3 have been busy learning how to use a ruler accurately to measure. The children converted mm to cm using their knowlegde of multipcation and division.
