Summer 1 Home Learning

We have been really amazed by the quality of the children's models of Tudor houses. Such a lot of effort has gone into them. Well done everyone. This morning, we built a Tudor town in the hall, which we think looks magnificent!

Year 4 Learning Logs – Autumn 1

Over the next 5 weeks we are going to ask you to carry out your own Design Technology project related to our topic on space.  Outlined below is the sequence of activities that will need to be carried out for you to be successful.  Although we have set it out in weekly activities you may choose to do them in larger or smaller blocks.  However at the end of the 5 weeks we would like you to bring in your finished design as well as your planning folder.

Week

Activity

1

Carry out an evaluation of an existing space rocket. Describe its purpose, shape and design. You will need to use books and ICT sources to get your information.

2

Visit www.spacefuture.com/vehicles/designs.shtml to get some ideas for rockets that are designed at the moment.  You will need to plan and design a model of your own rocket.  Models could be designed with a detachable nose that would contain a small spacecraft to journey on into Space.

3

It is time to begin constructing your rockets out of a range of junk modelling materials (large plastic bottle or long cardboard tube). You will also need equipment and tools, such as scissors, glue, masking tape, etc.

4

5

Finally you will need to complete the ‘rocket evaluation card’ which will help you reflect on what you have achieved.

All completed models should be brought into school during the last week of this half term.  If you are having any problems with your design please see your class teacher straight away.  Do not leave it until the last week.
