Darrick Wood Junior School

Travel Ambassadors

Darrick wood Junior School is fully committed to school travel planning and we actively promote sustainable modes of transport.

For this reason we would encourage parents to find means of travelling to school other than the car.

Pupils are encouraged to walk to school as regularly as possible. For children who live a considerable distance from school we suggest parents consider the option to park and stride, whereby the car is parked a reasonable distance from school and the children walk the rest of the way. Walking to school is also promoted through assemblies, activities and competitions.

In Year 6, pupils have the opportunity to take part in cycling proficiency training to develop key cycling skills as well as building a better awareness of road safety.

We encourage pupils to cycle to school whether with parents or alone (children who have passed the cycling proficiency test only). We have cycle sheds at the front of the school for secure storage.
