Governor Profiles

Mr. Erdal Niyazoglu (Chair, Co-opted Governor)

My name is Erdal Niyazoglu and I am in my third year as Chairman and look forward to the challenge ahead with this active roIe.  I am delighted and privileged to have an opportunity to serve as a Governor and to work with the staff and Governing Body to strive and ensure that the School's high standards and achievements are maintained.

My son has started in Year 3 and is studying hard and is naturally progressing in the Juniors.

I have a background in Graphic Design and after leaving Art School, worked designing LP record sleeves.  I then moved into the catering business and opened a number of Gastro and Thai restaurants.  During this time, I employed over 100 staff and managed the finance of the Group.  I have now sold all my restaurants and moved into property management.  This has allowed me time to be a Chair for our School and a Governor at Harris Orpington.

Mr. Andrew Kilgour (Headteacher, ex officio)

I am now in the twenty-sixth year of my teaching career, the last twelve years of which have been spent at Darrick Wood Junior School.  I have also taught in the London Boroughs of Sutton and Croydon and, early in my career, I spent two years teaching overseas in Eritrea.  I was appointed to DWJS in the role of Assistant Headteacher in 2007 and took on the role of Headteacher in September 2013.  As a member of the DWJS Governing Body I sit on all of its committees and work closely with school Governors, particularly the Chair of Governors, to improve outcomes for all children.  When not working, I enjoy running and cycling and I am a big fan of American sports, particularly the NFL.  I am also a keen, although not terribly good, guitarist.

Mr. Dave Hackin (Deputy Headteacher, Co-opted Governor)

Prior to joining Darrick Wood Junior School in April 2015, I spent the first eleven years of my teaching career working in Peckham, in the London Borough of Southwark.  From 2009 onwards, I have been employed as a Deputy Headteacher, leading on behaviour and inclusion in my previous position and on behaviour and assessment since joining DWJS.  My interests include futilely supporting Bolton Wanderers Football Club, reading modern history and watching live music.

Mr. Nigel Robinson (Chair of Finance & Resources Committee, Parent Governor)

I'm Nigel Robinson and have been a Parent Governor since 2011.  I have four children, one which has passed through the school and is now at the senior school.  Two are currently attending, with one still to come.  Feeling I had a vested interest in the school I decided to join the Governing Body and have enjoyed my time thus far.

I am Managing Director of a Picture Framing Company in East London and my everyday work life brings many skills which help me fulfil my role as a Governor.  I always hope that I have the school's best interest at heart and with my fellow Governors, strive to make our school the very best it can be for the good of all the children, staff and parents.

Mrs. Shelagh Harrison (Co-opted Governor)

My name is Shelagh Harrison. I am a retired Science teacher and Head of Year. My interests centre around my grandchildren, gardening, anything historical and going to a furniture restoration evening class. I look forward to serving as a Co-opted Governor.

Mr. Manikanth Mohan (Co-opted Governor)

My name is Manikanth Mohan and I joined as a Governor in September 2016. I also sit on the Pupils & Community and the Standards & Curriculum committees. In my day job, I work as a Director in a large financial services firm in the City, and bring over 10 years of experience looking at aspects of strategy, governance, prudential regulation and risk management. I have a M.Sc. in Mathematics and have also enjoyed and benefited from learning and working in many parts of the world, such as in Europe, Asia and the Middle-East.  I enjoy reading about science and technology, travelling, and spending time with family.

Mrs. Belinda Shurety (Parent Governor)

My name is Belinda Shurety. I am a mother of three; one in juniors and two at infant school. I joined as a Governor in September 2016. I am a member of the Finance and Resources Committee.

I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to contribute to the Governing Body. I look forward to supporting the school to continue building on its excellent reputation so that all pupils achieve their very best.

Mrs. Sara Benstead (Staff Governor)

My name is Sara Benstead and I joined the Governing Body as a Staff Governor in 2017.  I have worked at Darrick Wood Junior School for four years, initially as Office Manager before taking on the position of School Business Manager.  Having spent a significant part of my working life in varying roles within different education settings, I feel that I bring a breadth of knowledge and experience which I hope will benefit my role on the Governing Body.

Mr. Ayo Salau (Co-opted Governor)

My name is Ayo Salau.  I joined as a Governor in July 2018 and make up part of the Finance and Resources Committee.  My work as a consultant in the city has allowed me to develop skills that will help me fulfil my role as Governor.  I am a keen but emotionally wounded Arsenal fan in my spare time.

Ms. Selina Vaccarino (Co-opted Governor)

My name is Selina Vaccarino and I joined as a Governor in May 2019 and feel honoured to have been asked to take on the role of the Special Educational Needs Link Governor.

My day job is Head of Specialist Global Events for HSBC Bank, where I work directly for the group senior management team. I sit as part of the Strategy & Planning division, working across all global business areas and my role is mainly to manage the group's presence and engagement at high-level events.

Having grown up in Scotland, USA and Spain, I formerly taught English (adults and children) whilst living in Mexico.  I am well-travelled and spend most holidays visiting friends and family across the globe.

I am committed and excited to contribute to the Governing Body to help build on the positive successes of the school by being supportive with a decisive, open mind, ensuring the best outcomes for the  pupils and staff.
